Separation of Church and State (part 1)
The Alabama Supreme Court is in the news today because the Chief Justice Roy Moore has a display of the 10 Commandments in the courthouse.

Judge Moore made the following statement:

“The fight to defend our constitutional right to acknowlegde God must and will continue,” Moore said reading from a prepared statement to a large crowd gathered outside the Judicial Building.

Roy Moore, like the rest of us, does have the right to acknowledge God, as a private person! However, Judge Roy Moore, Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court does not have the right to show support for any particular religion, in his public persona.

It seems that many of our politicians are forgetting this. This is a very dangerous trend. Our president, attorney general, and several members of the United States Senate have also shown this dangerous tendency to show off their religious beliefs and turn them into law.

On of the most important amendments to the Constitution of These United States is the very first amendment.

Amendment I.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. [Editors note: underlining mine.]

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

That bears repeating. Seperation of church and state is a fundamental right protected by the constitution. How do you think a Buddist or Hindu would feel at seeing a symbol of the Judeao-Christian religion upon entering the Alabama Supreme Court. Do you think they might feel discriminated against? Do you think they might feel that their religion will affect decisions regarding them?

Judge Roy Moore is wrong and wrong headed. He is not a good Christian, he is not a good judge, and he is breaking one of the most sacred laws of this land.

Remember the words of Christ Our Lord and Savior:

Matthew 22: 21.
They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Mark 12: 17.
And Jesus said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marvelled greatly at him.

Luke 20:24.
Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar's.

It is clear to me that the Lord is telling us to keep our religion and our governments seperate and distinct. How can Judge Roy Moore call himself Christian when he disobeys the very Word of God.

Amen
