Family Values

Family Values

During the past several decades there has been a huge focus on family values and the nuclear family. These things are often connected to Christianity as if it is the Christian way to focus on the nuclear family and the values of the nuclear family.

I am an ardent reader of the Bible, on my shelves I have a dozen different translations. I also have several electronic copies of the Bible on my personal computer. I can't seem to find any Biblical passages that support this concept of family values!

However, I find thousands of passages that support community values! The Bible puts husband and wife at the top of the charts. Husband and wife together equal one entity. A husband must place his wife before all others and the wife must place her husband first in her life. Even before her children!

It is the extended family or community that the Bible places high in importance and that community is centered on the church. This is how it should be in a Christian community. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are just as important as our children, our parents, our neighbors.

Let us all switch our focus back to community values and the church as it should be!

Jesus tells us that we are the body. We make up the church and that is the most important thing to Him.
