Friction
Try driving your car without any oil in the crankcase. What happens? The engine overheats and seizes, then you have to buy a new engine or have the current one rebuilt. Either way it costs you a bundle. Why does this happen? The answer is friction! Oil is a lubricant, it keeps engine parts that rub together from getting too hot. Without oil, you will soon be walking.
Human society needs a lubricant as well. When people come together they cause friction. Heat here is anger, frustration and, ultimately, a violent outburst. So what can we use as a lubricant to help people live together without the anger and frustration?
Courtesy, respect, and kindness!
Yes, that is the lubricant that helps society to interact smoothly and easily. 'Thank you', 'Excuse me, 'Your Welcome', 'Please' are all words and phrases that relieve tension, reduce anger, and let people live together in comfort and ease.
It has always amazed me that as population pressure increases more and more people dismiss courtesy, respect, and kindness as being a useless waste of time and energy. It seems that the more we need courtesy, respect, and kindness the more people dismiss it.
Please go out, be courteous, show respect, and commit random acts of kindness!
Amen
