Gay Marriage
Massachusetts, over many protests, now allows same-sex couples to marry.  On the first day—17 Monday 2004—hundreds of same sex couples from all over the country got married.  And thousands of protesters all over the country have predicted the end of the world as we know it.
However, heterosexual men and women are not going to change their spousal preferences simply because they can.  Heterosexual men and women are still going to marry in droves and get divorced in droves.
The most interesting thing is how mad many people are.  Why are they angry?  They are angry because the government won't pass laws based on their religious beliefs.  Amazing, in a country that has freedom of religion built right into the constitution—the most basic law of the land—politicians will not pass laws respecting the establishment of a religious belief!
An aside to fellow memebers of the clergy.  This change does not affect us.  Clergy have a long history of refusing to marry couples whom they feel are not appropriate together.  This will not change.  If a couple presents to you and you do not believe the marriage is proper, refuse to marry them.  It is as simple as that.
Amen
