It is not free!
In my e-mail today I found a number of advertisements offering free merchandise, all I had to do was pay for shipping & handling or a small processing charge. This may seem obvious but if you have to pay money, any money, then it is not free!
Be that as it may, how can these companies give away nearly free merchandise? Well, there are several reasons.
The give away items only cost a dollar or two to make.They actually charge more for shipping & handling that it costs to ship.
They take your address and sell it to other companies who want to advertise.They take your e-mail address and sell it to other companies who want to send you spam.
They get to verify that your e-mail is valid.They find out you have a credit card and can buy things over the net.The last two items allow them to charge more for your address and e-mail address.
You get spam every day offering something for next to nothing. Please remember that there is no free lunch and advertisers have their own best interests at heart. Spam costs you money, even when you do not answer it. Answering spam cost you a lot of money!
If nobody responded to spam, spammers would stop sending it!
Please, for your sake, for all our sakes, just delete the spam and don't try to get the "free" merchandise that costs us all millions!
It is NOT free!
